COURSE: SAFE HANDLING OF CARGO
COURSE CODE: SHC 102

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is intended to highlight safety when working with cargo and the importance of safety when dealing with cargoes ensuring that there is no damage to the cargo and most importantly no hurt or injuries to people working with and around the cargo

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this course participants should be able to understand the importance of safety when dealing with cargo both moving the cargo and securing them. The importance of proper rigging and storage of lifting gears which includes the wire ropes, shackles, links and other accessories.

CONTENTS:
Practical
Planning a lifting operation
Inspection of cargo
Handling of cargo
Signalling of operator by radio/hand signals
Securing of cargo
Questions and answer session

Theory
Cargo carrying units (CCU) design
Slings and shackles
Supply base checks
Loading and securing of cargo
Slinging of Tubular
Loads requiring special attention
Positioning of loads on vessel
Sea fastening
Positioning of loads on Trucks

DESIGNED FOR:
Riggers and all employees involved in any lifting or handling of loads and lifting equipments including their supervisors

DURATION:
Two Days

METHODOLOGY:
Class room session,
Course manual for all participants
Practical session application of the use of hand signals for communication during lifting operations
Digital in-focus projector to display lecture slides
At the end of the course, participants shall be issued certificates.

Minimum 6

Revalidation:
Every three years

Health:
All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
