COURSE: OFFSHORE HELIDECK FIRE TEAM MEMBER
COURSE COURSE CODE: OHFTM 211

COURSE DESCRIPTION Despite the best efforts of all involved in helicopter operations, it is recognized that accidents can and do occur. Within the limits inherent in operating at remote helidecks, the potential for accidents demand an immediate and correct response to prevent serious injury or property damage.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
 carry out emergency response actions incorporating fire fighting situations and rescue at the helideck
 Select and use firefighting equipment as appropriate to helideck emergencies
 Extinguish fires on the helideck
 Locating and rescue casualties trapped in a crashed helicopter
 Use BAs and associated equipment Course Content
 Helideck accidents
 Helicopter Hazards
 Legislation applicable to helidecks
 Helicopter Legislation
 Regulations for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods
 Helicopter construction material
 Helideck construction, features and markings
 Flash point and auto ignition of helideck and helicopter materials
 Reaction of helideck materials to fires
 Helicopter fuel types and characteristics
 Helicopter crash fire and rescue technique
 Hazards of elevated heliports/helipads
 Emergency response tactics in NUI and elevated heliports/helipads
 Inspection, donning 02 monitoring of the breathing Apparatus
 Helideck foam application tactics.
 Types of foam and equipment layout
 Casualty handling
 Using a stretcher.
 Casualty transportation techniques

PREREQUISITE
Participant should have taken the basic fire fighting course, or have some experience in structural fire fighting.

Target Audience
All offshore personnel appointed to manage emergencies on helidecks, HLO, helideck assistants, safety representatives/officers, rig medics and other helideck attendants

DURATION
Two Days

Methodology:
Class room session, Course manual for all participants Digital in-focus projector to display lecture slides At the end of the course, participants shall be issued certificates.

Participant per Class
Minimum 6

Revalidation: Every three years

Health: All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
