COURSE: HELICOPTER DECK ASSISTANT
COURSE CODE: HDA 202

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO), Helideck Assistants (HDA’s) carry out routine helideck operations such as assisting with passenger embarkation and disembarkation, transferring freight and baggage to and from the helicopter when it has landed on the helideck of an offshore mining installation. The primary role of the HDA is to assist the helicopter landing officer. That includes a fixed routine of helideck operations such as maintenance and testing of helideck systems and equipment. The HDA the passenger embarkation and disembarkation, as well as making sure that freight and passenger baggage are handled safely to and from the helicopter. In case of an emergency, the HDA plays an important role as an emergency response team member.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
 Hazards of helicopter operations, dangerous areas, entry and escape routes (helideck and helicopter), personal      protective equipment to be used, cleaning, maintenance and completion of available equipment.
 Preparation of the helideck and associated (fire-fighting) equipment for the landing and take-off of a helicopter.
 Performance of normal and emergency procedures, connected with the landing and takeoff of helicopters.
 Boarding or disembarking of persons and loading or unloading of freight (including dangerous materials).
 The loading of the helicopter and the collection of the data for the determination of the weight of the helicopter.

COURSE CONTENT
• Offshore Helideck regulations and guidelines;
• Helideck Assistant’s routine duties and responsibilities;
• Helicopter and Helideck operation hazard and management systems;
• Helideck construction features and equipment;
• Helideck operations preparations and protocols;
• Meteorology;
• Passenger embarkation and disembarkation assistance;
• Cargo handling; transportation of dangerous goods;
• Emergency procedures on the Helideck.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
 Medical certificate
 Must have completed Helideck Emergency Team Member (HERTM) course

Target Audience
Offshore personnel appointed to work as Helideck Assistants (HDA).

DURATION
Two Days

Methodology:
Class room session,
Course manual for all participants
Digital in-focus projector to display lecture slides
At the end of the course, participants shall be issued certificates.

Minimum 6

Revalidation:
Every three years

Health:
All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
